If you're at a pivot point in your life, read this

Hi there!

I’m celebrating an anniversary, of sorts.

The 1-year anniversary of being in the goo.

Yes, there’s such a thing. Well, I’ve made it a thing.

A year ago, I was in the goo.

I wrote about it here.

The goo is the name I made up for that in-between place where things don’t feel right anymore… but the path ahead is still foggy and unclear.

The chrysalis, in which the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.

The goo is where what used to work feels off.

Where you’re questioning everything — your work, your life, your next step — and you’re quietly afraid you won’t figure it out.

Or that your best is behind you.

(This was a really scary line of thought for me.)

I didn’t realize I was in the goo at first.

I just knew I felt stuck, restless, disconnected from myself. Things weren’t working well, including in my business.

And my first desire was to JUST GET THROUGH IT TO THE OTHER SIDE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

To figure out how to get unstuck. To know what I should do and quickly.

Because is deeply uncomfortable, especially for those of us who are doers and creators and like to move forward and feel a sense of momentum.

But now, looking back, I see it clearly:

That goo was essential — an essential, messy middle of BECOMING.

Of unleashing my next.

And while it was a really difficult time, it was a gift.

Because that goo chapter — and against my old habits, not rushing myself to get out of it — gave birth to a new version of me.

Bolder, more confident, more excited about my life than I had been in a long time.

I got clear on what I wanted to be doing more, on what new dimensions I wanted to express.

I began to do new things in my business, created a new body of work, and committed to growing my art career in addition to being a speaker and leadership mentor.

This morning, I read through some of my journal entries from a year ago.

And celebrated my goo anniversary by reflecting on all the meaningful shifts I’ve made in the past year.

I feel so much more expansive and energized now.

I am still building this next chapter, but I have so much more clarity.

And the most amazing feeling is that it feels deeply true to me.

So if you’re in the goo right now — I see you!

And I want you to know:

This is not your ending.

It’s the threshold of your next becoming.

In the chrysalis, the liminal cells that will make the butterfly are already there.

The seeds of your next chapter are already within you.

Even if you’re not sure what it is, yet.

Next week, I’ll share with you the question I asked myself that eventually led me out of the goo and into my current chapter I’m really excited about.

But for now, my advice is this:

Don’t fight the goo. Be in it.

The caterpillar can’t become a butterfly without going through the chrysalis phase.

You can’t unleash your next chapter without this goo phase.

So be in it — but be in it with the inner knowing that it’s part of the process vs. something that’s wrong or needs to be fixed.

I’m working on something to help guide you through the goo, transition or a life pivot into your next chapter — with clarity, confidence, and momentum.

I want to make it as valuable as possible so I need your help:

If you’re in a moment of transition or pivot in your life or work, please take 5 minutes to answer a few questions.

Here’s the link.

Your answers will help me create something that you would find super helpful and relevant.

Thank you in advance, awesome human!

With love,

Nataly

P.S. I painted a lot of butterflies during my goo chapter. They were great reminders to trust that my new wings where there, even if I didn’t know what they were yet.

Here’s one of my paintings from that time — to remind you that your next butterfly is within you!

And here's a new piece I just finished, from my series called Explosion of Joy:

I love seeing how my art evolves and changes as I evolve and change. I create what I feel, not what I see. So in a way, my artwork is a visual diary of my many caterpillar to butterfly journeys.

I'll be making 10 small artworks from my Explosion of Joy series available for you to purchase and collect soon. So if you want more joy in your life and on your walls, stay tuned!

Hi, Reader, A dream came true for me this past weekend. Six women — most of whom didn’t know each other — gathered in my art studio in Boston for The Art of Reinvention™ Retreat. I’ve wanted to create a retreat like this for a long time and finally, it happened! And it was AMAZING. We laughed a lot! Got really honest with ourselves and each other. Used so many art supplies. (so many!) Ate lots of delicious food and even visited a museum and had a special Empowered Self photoshoot. There were...

Hi, Reader, You know this expression: “To take up space?” I’ve heard it for years, usually as part advice for how to be more confident. But I have to be honest, for a long time, I wasn’t really sure what the “take up space” idea really meant. Last week, it finally clicked. And I think this story, when I share it, will help it click for you, too. Because most of us need to learn how to take up space in order to truly thrive and live the lives we love. Or rather, we have to unlearn a lot of...

Hi, Reader, This weekend, my husband Avi and I watched a wonderful documentary called Eames: The Architect and the Painter. It’s about Charles and Ray Eames, the couple who created the famous and ubiquitous Eames chair and influenced the development of modern design. We don’t have an Eames chair in our apartment, although I did consider getting them as dining chairs, but the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are my bucket list for sure. If you enjoy documentaries about creative people, I highly...
