3 reflection prompts that open something big

Hi, Reader,

A dream came true for me this past weekend.

Six women — most of whom didn’t know each other — gathered in my art studio in Boston for The Art of Reinvention™ Retreat.

I’ve wanted to create a retreat like this for a long time and finally, it happened!

And it was AMAZING.

We laughed a lot!

Got really honest with ourselves and each other.

Used so many art supplies. (so many!)

Ate lots of delicious food and even visited a museum and had a special Empowered Self photoshoot.

There were tears (the good kind) and a deep sense of being seen — maybe for the first time in a long time.

But more than anything, what I was blown away by was their willingness to drop perfection, to explore what’s possible, and to remember who they really are underneath all the ‘shoulds’ and expectations.

One of the most powerful creative exercises was when I asked the women to divide a piece of paper into two parts:

--> On one side: a painting of their limiting belief (a story that’s been holding them back.)

--> On the other: what would be possible for them if they let it go.

The contrast was staggering.

And for many, it was the first time they didn’t just think about a breakthrough — they felt it. Viscerally. In their bodies. Through color and emotion.

They realized they were creative, even if they hadn’t believed it before!

They dared to speak aloud what they actually want vs. what they thought they should want.

They created a vision of their future self that felt honest and energizing.

They built something beautiful together — imperfect, bold, alive.

The most common thing I heard these amazing women say at the end of the retreat is:

“I feel more authentically me.”

And that’s what reinvention is: Not becoming someone new, but becoming more of who you are.

This retreat was also a breakthrough moment for me.

I had this magical feeling of being and doing what I am truly meant for.

Because for the first time, I brought together every part of me — my art, my reinvention work, my love of guiding people to feel more alive and fulfilled — into one living, breathing experience.

I wasn’t just leading a retreat.

I was being exactly who I’m here to be — and helping others do the same.

There’s something incredibly powerful that happens when we stop hiding parts of ourselves — and let all of us show up in service of others.

Inspired by this retreat, I’ll be opening up two new invitations soon:

  1. A summer virtual experience (with some of the most powerful creative practices from the retreat — no travel needed!)
  2. A second Art of Reinvention™ Retreat this fall — for a new group of women ready to step into the next version of themselves

I’ll share more details soon. But for now I want to offer you a few prompts for your own reflection:

(We explored these during the retreat. And yes, please feel free to get creative with them!)

🎨 3 Questions for You:

  1. If I didn’t have to be practical, what would I create, start, or say yes to?
  2. What belief about myself is quietly holding me back from being fully me?
  3. What invisible thread — a feeling, a truth, a part of me — do I want to carry forward?

If you’d like, reply and share one of your reflections with me. I’d love to hear from you. (I read all of my emails myself, always.)

Here's another fun photo of these amazing women showing off their Art Totes I made for them with one of my pieces on it. (We called this our artsy photo:)

More soon!

With aliveness and joy,

Nataly

P.S. I am sharing something EPIC with you next week... I literally cannot wait.

Hi there! I’m celebrating an anniversary, of sorts. The 1-year anniversary of being in the goo. Yes, there’s such a thing. Well, I’ve made it a thing. A year ago, I was in the goo. I wrote about it here. The goo is the name I made up for that in-between place where things don’t feel right anymore… but the path ahead is still foggy and unclear. The chrysalis, in which the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly. The goo is where what used to work feels off. Where you’re questioning everything...

Hi, Reader, You know this expression: “To take up space?” I’ve heard it for years, usually as part advice for how to be more confident. But I have to be honest, for a long time, I wasn’t really sure what the “take up space” idea really meant. Last week, it finally clicked. And I think this story, when I share it, will help it click for you, too. Because most of us need to learn how to take up space in order to truly thrive and live the lives we love. Or rather, we have to unlearn a lot of...

Hi, Reader, This weekend, my husband Avi and I watched a wonderful documentary called Eames: The Architect and the Painter. It’s about Charles and Ray Eames, the couple who created the famous and ubiquitous Eames chair and influenced the development of modern design. We don’t have an Eames chair in our apartment, although I did consider getting them as dining chairs, but the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are my bucket list for sure. If you enjoy documentaries about creative people, I highly...
